Hi, I am having an issue using backup software (Dantz Retrospect) and

it has

to do with the Volume Shadow Copy Service. When I attempt an open file

backup, I get an error saying permission denied and this event is

logged:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: VSS

Event Category: None

Event ID: 12292

Date: 12/9/2005

Time: 4:46:34 AM

User: N/A

Computer: MICKEY

Description:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error creating the Shadow Copy

Provider

COM class with CLSID {65ee1dba-8ff4-4a58-ac1c-3470ee2f376a}

[0x80040154].

0018: 36 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 60.....

I am thinking it's because the "MS Software Shadow Copy Provider" is

unable

to start. I have reinstalled COM+ and reregistered DLL's from posts I

have

read, but it still won't start.

This is the message I get when I attempt to start it:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: Service Control Manager

Event Category: None

Event ID: 7009

Date: 12/9/2005

Time: 10:29:20 PM

User: N/A

Computer: MICKEY

Description:

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the MS Software Shadow Copy

Provider service to connect.

Any help aside from reinstalling would be greatly appreciated!

    • Also, when I go into Component Services, I do not see the Shadow Copy

Provider loaded under the COM+ applications... I really do not want to

reinstall XP, but it looks like all I can do at this point.
